Our Classes

 

PRESCHOOL CREATIVE MOVEMENT

Ages 3-5

A fun and engaging class for the littlest dancers exploring body awareness, creative dance play and simple floor, center and across the floor games. The focus is on learning and dancing through play. In this class we help set the foundation for strong balance, well developed gross motor skills and flexibility.

Uniform: Black leotard, pink tights or leggings, pink ballet slippers.

PRE BALLET I

Kindergarten

In this class children are introduced to the basics of ballet through simple barre and floor exercises and are encouraged to express their creativity and musicality through dance play. Children develop body awareness and listening skills that will prepare them for their future dancing.

Uniform: Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers.

PRE BALLET II

Grades 1-2

In this class students build upon the basic skills acquired in Pre Ballet I. There is more emphasis on ballet technique and vocabulary, while still leaving time for dance play at the end of class.

Uniform: Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers.

BALLET I

Grades 3-4

In this class students transition into a more structured class environment. Dancers are taught the basics of ballet technique, putting special emphasis on correct placement and alignment of the body to build a strong foundation for their future development.

Uniform: Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers.

BEGINNER POINTE

*Minimum 12 years old, at Laura’s discretion

This class is open to students who are at least 12 years old, have completed two consecutive years of ballet training at Kaleidoscope, and are deemed ready by Laura. Dancers will work on foot and ankle strength and pointe technique at the barre. Steps will continue to progress in difficulty, and students will move on to center work once they have gained adequate strength and coordination.

Uniform: leotard, tights, pointe shoes

MODERN II

Grades 5-7

Traditional modern dance vocabulary is introduced, along with longer dance phrases and a deeper exploration of the dancer’s choreographic voice.  A full-body warm-up, along with stretching and core strengthening exercises begin each class.

Uniform: leotard or tank, leggings, bare feet.

CHILDREN’S TAP

Grades 3+

Taught by Hannah Burbidge, this hour long, mixed-age class serves as an introduction to the fundamentals of tap. Through a combination of technical precision, creative expression, and nurturing encouragement, Hannah strives to instill confidence and rhythm in every dancer. The class will include a warm up, across the floor, and learning some short pieces of choreography. We are so excited to offer a new style of dance to Kaleidoscope students!

Uniform: leotard or tank, leggings, tap shoes

BALLET II

Grades 5-7

The goal of this class is to expand the dancers’ ballet vocabulary and technical placement. A longer barre, more complicated combinations and more difficult steps will be learned and executed. Stretching and pre-pointe strengthening is included.

Uniform: Black leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slippers.

INTERMEDIATE POINTE

Prerequisite Beginner Pointe

This class is open to students who have completed more than one full year of pointe. Barre work, strengthening exercises, center work, turns and full combinations are included.

Uniform: leotard, tights, pointe shoes.

MODERN III

Grades 8-12

A 90-minute modern class, including a full-body warm-up, stretching, core strengthening, floor phrases, center and traveling phrases, and choreography exercises.

Uniform: leotard or tank, leggings, bare feet.

BALLET III

Grades 8-12

Ballet III is a traditional, 90 minute ballet class, consisting of a full barre, stretching, adagio, center work, turns and grande allegro (large traveling jumps). Dancers work to establish a complete ballet vocabulary, as well as improving placement, musicality, and strength.

Uniform: Leotard, pink tights and pink ballet slippers.

MODERN I

Grades 3-4

This class is an introduction to modern dance. Class begins with a  full body warm-up focusing on stretching, strengthening, and core connection. Warm-up is followed by phrase work focusing on directional shift, weight change, rhythm and more. Class ends with choreography games. 

Uniform: Leotard or t-shirt and leggings, bare feet.


ADVANCED TECHNIQUE MODERN

Supplemental to Modern III

This 90-minute modern class is offered to students enrolled in Modern III who are looking to take their dancing to the next level by adding a supplementary technique class. This class serves as an opportunity to cement technical knowledge into the students’ muscle memory, allowing them to progress at a quicker pace. Emphasis will be placed on body alignment, strength, and musicality while executing more advanced steps such as turns and jumps.

Uniform: leotard or tank, leggings, bare feet.
